Aftercare Alcohol & Drug Support Group

Meets from 4:00-5:00 p.m., every Monday, including holidays.

Location: Group Room at South Central Recovery Center - 3rd Floor at South Central Regional Medical Center.

September is National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month.  According to the 2008 National Survey on Drug Use and Health in 2008, approximately 22 million Americans were classified as having substance dependence or substance abuse.  For individuals seeking help, a strong network of support is important during recovery and after treatment ends.  South Central Regional Medical Center offers an Aftercare Alcohol & Drug Support Group to the community.  This group meets every Monday at 4:00 p.m., including holidays, in the Group Room at the South Central Recovery Center.  For more information, please call (601) 426-4381.

 

Alzheimer’s Support Group (Caregiver’s Support Group)

Meets at 10:00 am on the first Friday of each month.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, loss of memory and intellectual ability severe enough to affect everyday living.  The National Institute on Aging reports that millions of American’s live with Alzheimer’s disease.  Being a caregiver of someone suffering from this disease is a demanding responsibility, physically, mentally and emotionally.  It is important for caregivers to be able to cope with these demands and to have a strong network of support.  South Central Regional Medical Center offers a Caregiver’s Support Group that meets at 10:00am on the first Friday of each month at South Central Place on 16th Ave in Laurel.  For more information, please contact Donna Jones at (601) 426-4335.

 
Cancer Survivor Support Group

Meets from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month.

Location: South Central Place.

For cancer survivors, support is important in coping with the physical and emotional side effects of the disease.  Maintaining emotional and mental well being is just as important as proper nutrition and exercise after surviving cancer.  South Central Regional Medical Center offers a monthly support group for cancer survivors in our community.  This group meets on the last Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m. at South Central Place on 16th Ave. in Laurel.  For more information, please contact Karen Vanderslice at (601) 399-0506.

 

Cardio/Pulmonary/Stroke/Diabetic Support Group

Meets from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Location: South Central Place.

Chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes affect the lives of 25 million Americans.  For many, these diseases limit daily activities and reduce quality of life.  South Central Regional Medical Center offers a support group to individuals who suffer from the effects of these chronic diseases.   This support group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. at South Central Place on 16th Ave. in Laurel.  For more information, please contact Greg Stueve (601) 426-4719.


 
Epilepsy Support Group

Support Group meets every other month.

Epilepsy is a neurological condition that causes seizures and affects more than 2 million people in the United States.  The effects of this condition can impact a person’s emotional and mental well-being.  An epilepsy support group at South Central Regional Medical Center offers to support to epilepsy patients and their friends and family members.  For more information about this support group, please contact Kameye Hankins at (601) 319-0554 or by email at support4ep@gmail.com.


 
Families and Children With Special Needs Support Group

Meets at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.

Location: South Central Place.

Although every special-needs child is different and every family is unique, there are common concerns that link parents of a special-needs child.  This new support group will promote acceptance in the extended family, school, and community.  Members of the group will celebrate the challenges, which will make triumphs so much sweeter.  During each support group meeting there will be an opportunity for special-needs children to interact in a social setting.  By joining this network of parents, you will soon see that weaknesses are often accompanied by amazing strengths.  For more information, please contact Janet Staples at (601) 399-0512 or via e-mail at: jstaples@scrmc.com.

 

Man to Man (Prostate Cancer) Support Group

Meets at 7:30 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month.

In America, one in six men are living with prostate cancer.  South Central Regional Medical Center offers a prostate support group to men in our community who are living with prostate cancer.  This group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 a.m. at South Central Place on 16th Ave in Laurel.  For more information, please call Lesha Lilly at (601) 399-0501.
