South Central Behavioral Health Services Provides Numerous Services to the Community.
South Central Behavioral Health Services (SCBHS) is dedicated to the mental health needs of the community. The month of May has been National Mental Health Month, and healthcare professionals are working to raise awareness about the many health conditions associated with mental health.
On Friday, May 4th, SCBHS hosted a “Stress Less for Positive Mental Health” workshop. Arvinder Kaul, M.D., full time psychiatrist and medical director of South Central Recovery Center, Progressions, and South Central Behavioral Health Clinic was featured as the keynote speaker of the workshop and addressed the common topic of generalized anxiety disorder. Along with Dr. Kaul, speakers Amy Adelman, LPC, with SCBHS and Sara Murphy, Outreach Coordinator with the Alzheimer’s Association shared information on how to cope with stress and provide relaxation therapy.
SCBHS provides services under the direction of two psychiatrists, who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders including, ADHD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Depression, Dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, Anxiety Disorders, Bi-Polar Disorder, Schizophrenia and Substance Abuse Disorders. The team of experienced professionals at South Central includes, Physicians, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Licensed Professional Counselors, a Social Worker RN, LPNs, Activity Director and host of Behavioral Health Techs.
Through services at South Central a wide array of care is available for the mental healthcare needs for children through elderly adults. Psychiatric evaluation and treatment is available through inpatient and outpatient services.
South Central Senior Care is an Inpatient Geriatric Program located at South Central Regional Medical Center and provides excellent care for adults ages 55 and older that face the challenges of aging with a mental health illness. Under the psychiatric care of Stuart Samson, M.D., dedicated staff provides hope and encouragement to each patient through group and individual counseling, activity programs, physical therapy, healthy nutritional meals and medical evaluation and treatment. Family support is of utmost importance with a variety of resources available, including a monthly Caregiver's Support Group meeting. The Recovery Center at South Central is an inpatient program that provides a 5-7 day Alcohol and Drug Detoxification to secure clinical support through the withdrawal phase for those 18 years and older. The Recovery Center understands detoxification is only the first step to recovery from the disease of addiction. Counselors provide extensive education with a focus to help individuals with a relapse prevention plan and assist in referrals to secondary treatment. Progressions is an outpatient service that allows individuals to receive mental healthcare through intensive services. Located on Hwy 15 North, this program allows individuals 18 and older to participate in psychosocial group therapy with supportive counseling under the psychiatric care of Dr. Arvinder Kaul. Progressions provides a team of Licensed Professional Counselors dedicated to positive education and therapy that assists in changing lives for those that struggle with mental health disorders include Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Bi-Polar Disorder, Schizophrenia and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. SCRMC Dietary provides a delicious and nutritional meal each day. Free transportation is provided to those that live within a 50 mile radius of the center.
