Seat Belts: Wear Them RightSafety belts are your best protection in a crash. To wear them correctly: Wear a lap belt or the lap part of a lap/shoulder belt low and snug across the pelvis and lap area. Never wear it across the stomach, where it could cause internal injury. The shoulder belt should cross your chest and collarbone snugly. It should never cross in front of your face or neck, and dont place it behind your back or under your arm. In a vehicle with an automatic shoulder belt and a manual lap belt, fasten the lap belt yourself. Most children younger than age 9 are too small to wear lap and shoulder belts properly. Children who either weigh less than 80 pounds or are less than 4 feet 9 inches tall should use booster seats. SCRMC is designated as a Level III Trauma Center.
