South Central Cardiac Catheterization Lab Hits Milestone
South Central covers a broad range of cardiac testing, including radionuclide stress testing, transesophageal echocardiography, arrhythmia monitoring, and tilt table studies, to name a few. In addition, the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory provides
both diagnostic and therapeutic The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory allows analysis of complex cardiac abnormalities by direct visualization of the coronary arteries on the surface of the heart, heart chambers, and heart valves. Dr. Joseph Proli, Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, notes, "The development of a cardiac catheterization program here at South Central has revolutionized heart care for the patients of Jones County and the surrounding areas. We are now able to provide a variety of important services to our local community, which in the past needed to be provided elsewhere. Here at South Central, we are fortunate to have an excellent administrative and clinical staff, which allows the lab to evolve with modern cardiac care." Paula Prestwood, RN, Director of Catheterization Services at South Central, states, "Candidates for cardiac catheterization include individuals with a high risk for coronary artery disease and patients with valvular heart disease. The major advantage of the catheterization lab is the ability for patients to begin and complete an evaluation locally. The ability to be close to home provides convenience and comfort to the patient and their family members." The five staff cardiologists at South Central, including Dr. Michael Brumley, Dr. Juan J. Cabanero, Dr. Lawrence Leader, Dr. Joseph Proli, and Dr. David Sullivan, continue to strive to achieve a high level of excellence in the field of cardiology. The cardiac care professionals at South Central Regional Medical Center, including the cardiac catheterization staff, coronary intensive care nurses, telemetry nurses, cardiac rehab specialist, and cardiologists, will continue to provide local, high-quality, personalized care to the residents of this area. |
