A Different Perspective on Home Health Care
Responding to a knock at the door left Barbara Hurst with a different perspective on home health care. On her way to answer the door, she rounded a table, slipped, and fell. Even with severe knee pain, she managed to get up from the floor. Her son took her to Laurel Family Clinic.
The Receiving End of Care
At the clinic, Dr. John Hassell ordered an X-ray, and determined an MRI would be necessary to further assess the damage that had been done to her knee. After the MRI, Hurst was admitted to the hospital for pain management and Dr. Ross Ward began treating her injury.
Dr. Ward recommended a total knee replacement and Hurst agreed to the procedure. After the surgery, the recovery process required Hurst to have home health care. Hurst worked in health services for 25 years, but now found herself on the receiving end of care.
Motivating People to Get Better
Hurst said after her surgery, ComfortCare Home Health provided her home care. According to Hurst, the nurse assigned to her was very encouraging and motivating. No matter what, they were always nice to me, she says. They helped me to do things I did not want to do or did not feel like doing, but it was important for me to get better. I had done the same thing in my job for yearsmotivating people to get better.
If it was not for Home Health, I would have recovered, but it would have been a slow time coming, she says. They motivated me. It totally changed the picture for me, and I wanted to share my satisfaction with the world.
Speaking from Both Sides
Hurst says she can speak for home health, since she has been on both sides. When asked if she would recommend ComfortCare Home Health, she emphatically agreed that home health services are invaluable to the recovery process.
Help an Older Adult Stay Upbeat
If your loved one is a caregiver, encourage them to share the load with another.
Encourage your loved one to spend time with family and friends. This kind of support helps prevent depression.
If your relative has lost a spouse, suggest that they join a support group to meet others facing the same issues.
