Quick Recovery, in the Comfort of Your Own Home: Gallbladder Surgery

Recovery after gallbladder surgery used to mean a long stay at the hospital. Most gallbladder removals required a large incision or open surgery, meaning at least a one-week hospital stay and potentially four to six weeks off from work.

Fortunately, with the development of laparoscopic surgery, recovery from gallbladder removal has improved dramatically. With laparoscopic gallbladder removal, little to no hospital stay is required, and you can return to work in as early as three to five days. Total recovery is expected within two weeks.

The physician makes four very small incisions. These small incisions cause less pain and allow for a much quicker recovery.

“Today gallbladder surgery is routinely performed at outpatient surgery centers. Surgery at an outpatient center allows you to recover in the comfort of your own home and return to normal activity as quickly as possible,” states Dr. Chad Saul, surgeon with Laurel Surgery Clinic.

Here in Laurel, laparoscopic gallbladder surgery is performed at the new Laurel Surgery and Endoscopy Center. For more information about gallbladder surgery, call Laurel Surgery Clinic at 649-7802.
