TLC for Stitches

You’ve just had stitches to close up a bad cut. Knowing how to take care of your stitched wound can help it heal, prevent infection, and minimize scarring. So, make sure you ask the doctor these questions before going home:
Should I keep the cut dry? If so, for how long? Is it OK if it gets wet in the bath or shower?
When is it safe to take these bandages off? Should I put new ones on?
Will I need to clean the wound? If so, how often? What should I use?
Should I apply an antibiotic ointment to the wound to protect against infection?
What are the warning signs of an infection? If I notice these symptoms, what should I do?
Can I go about my regular daily activities while my stitches are in?
