4-D Ultrasound Provides Amazing Images of the Unborn Child

Mothers now have the ability to see their baby in the womb through beautiful 4-D ultrasound images. The pictures available show the unborn child moving, blinking, and even smiling. Individual finger movements also can be seen. The 4-D ultrasound technology is now available at the OB/GYN Group of Laurel.

4-D ultrasound is the latest ultrasound technology. It features advanced signal processing, which produces higher-quality ultrasound images. But what makes the system unique is exclusive 4-D technology. It represents the difference between video and a still photograph. Through this revolutionary technology, your baby’s three-dimen- sional images are continuously updated, providing a “liveaction” view.

K.C. Sisco, ultrasonographer with OB/GYN Group of Laurel, says, “There is nothing like watching the faces of expectant parents as they see their unborn baby in clear view. The detail of a 4-D ultrasound is so much better than a normal 2-D scan. There is no comparison.”

“We are all excited about the capabilities of the 4-D ultrasound system and the opportunity for parents to see real-life images of their babies,” states Michael Weber, M.D. “Ultrasound is a safe, noninvasive exam that poses no risks and does not typically require any exam preparation. It uses sound waves to look inside the body. The technology is similar to radar. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo, and generates an image. There are many factors that impact the length of an ultrasound exam, including the position of the baby in the womb. However, a typical exam for an expectant mother lasts approximately 30 to 50 minutes,” he concludes.

The 4-D ultrasound package includes a DVD, several black and white photographs, and several color photographs. “We even give the parents a CD with all of the images filmed during the procedure so they can make their own copies,” K.C. says.
