Phil Rasberry Receives Doctorate in Physical Therapy
In 1992, the Institute of Physical Therapy in St. Augustine, Florida, began the nation's first doctorate in physical therapy program, which is available to therapists who have completed a master's degree. The purpose of the degree is to graduate clinical scientists into the field of physical therapy. It is not a research degree, but a professional doctorate with an emphasis on each candidate following a self-designed program to achieve their professional goals. Dr. Rasberry began working toward his degree at the Institute of Physical Therapy in 1996. According to Dr. Rasberry, the DPT program is provided to physical therapists in a distance education format, giving them the opportunity to earn the degree while maintaining their practice and other personal and professional activities. Dr. Rasberry is a 1971 graduate of Northeast Jones High School and a 1973 graduate of Jones Junior College. He received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Mississippi in 1975 and a master of science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1994. He received his Manual Therapy Certification from the University of St. Augustine in 1996. Dr. Rasberry has worked as Director of Rehabilitation Services at South Central Regional Medical Center since 1975. |
