In one study, kids with daily headaches were drinking, on average, more than 30 cans of cola weekly. But quitting “cold turkey” also can cause headaches. So, parents cut their children’s cola intake by about 8 ounces daily until they reached zero. Two weeks later, almost all the kids were headache-free.

Cephalalgia

A minor bike accident can cause major internal injuries—and a helmet doesn’t always help. Handlebars and gearshifts can act like spears against a child’s abdomen. So, consider buying a bike with gearshift levers on the “down tube”—the long tube running diagonally from the front to the middle of the bike—not on the handlebars. And make sure metal handlebar ends are covered with rubber guards.

The fruit your children eat today may protect them from cancer tomorrow. A study of nearly 4,000 school-age children showed that those who ate the most fruit were the least likely to develop cancer in adulthood. How much fruit did they eat? Just three ounces a day, on average.
