Nurse-Practitioner Aims to Provide Excellent Care at Ellisville Medical Clinic

Tamberlynn Baker is a family nurse-practitioner at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. A graduate of Pensacola Junior College, the University of West Florida, and Florida State University, Baker has worked at South Central Regional Medical Center for eight years.

Baker volunteered as a candy striper in Pensacola and grew to love working with people. “I especially enjoyed working with the nurses, and I learned that they serve a vital role in health care,” she says. “At that point I decided to go into nursing.”

Baker went into the Navy for several years, where she met a nurse-practitioner. “She loved her job, and I knew that I would love it, too,” she says.

When Baker got out of the Navy, she was interested in buying a townhouse in a large city. But, she and her husband came across Laurel—and the rest is history. “Now I have 10 acres and live in the country, and I just love it,” she says.

Tamberlynn Baker says South Central has kept up with all the changes in health care in order to compete. “You have to continue to add those new technologies to provide excellent care,” she says. “The number of patients we see and the amount of services we provide have grown so much.”

New Technology Complements Services

“Every addition to the clinic has been a complement to our services,” she says. “We now have a full lab, full X-ray, extended services that go into pediatrics, OB/GYN, and physical therapy. It makes it easier for our patients to get the care they need while staying close to home,” she says. “We’ve expanded to serve our population in the best way possible.”

Holistic Care Helps Patients Get Well

Baker says her goal as a nurse practitioner is to provide excellent care. “We want patients to get well in every aspect: physically, mentally, and spiritually,” Baker says. “It’s important that we provide that holistic care, and my coworkers are great at it.”

She says she is privileged to work with such talented individuals. “We all bring different skills and ideas to the job, while at the same time we have the same vision,” she says. “It makes our care that much better.” “I love working at South Central. I was recalled into the Navy in 2003,” she says. “South Central held my job for me; and when I returned, it was as if I’d never left.”

Patient Focus, High-Quality Care

Baker says South Central is committed to providing excellent care. “Our focus is on providing high-quality care to the patient,” she says. “Everybody has a key role in providing that care. We want to provide the best service possible.”

“It makes a big difference when the staff is cheerful and smiling,” Baker says. “We have our patients’ best interest in mind. We’re moving forward while still maintaining that personal relationship with our patients.”
