South Central’s Rehab HonoredSouth Central Regional Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Division was just named one of the top 10 rehabilitation facilities in the nation by Focus on Therapeutic Outcomes (FOTO). More than 500 rehabilitation facilities nationwide are listed in the FOTO database. South Central’s Rehabilitation Division is the only facility in the state of Mississippi to be included on the list. Others on the top-10 list are located in Colorado, Massachusetts, Ohio, Tennessee, Florida, New York, Idaho, and Texas. Facilities that make the list are those that have shown the greatest functional improvement in their patients during the past year. This is the second year South Central’s Rehabilitation Division has made the top-10 list.South Central’s rehabilitation and wellness facilities have expanded to accommodate the growing demand for services. “We began our outpatient and wellness program in a 4,500 square-foot space in Laurel in 1988,” says Phil Rasberry, director of Rehabilitation Services at South Central. “Due to the increased number of patients, we moved into a 12,000 square-foot facility in 1990. By 1997 we needed to expand again. Today, outpatient rehabilitation and wellness services are provided in a 28,000 square-foot facility located at the corner of Mason and Beacon Streets in Laurel.” South Central’s Rehabilitation Services staff treats more than 200 patients a day at the facility.
