About Nutrition

The less fat you eat, the healthier your heart will be. Some kinds of fats are worse than others.

Eat at least five servings of vegetables and fruits a day. Fruits and vegetables are naturally low in fat.

Eat fewer foods from animal sources, such as meat and whole-milk dairy products. These are high in saturated fat. Limit lean meat to two servings or less a day.

Avoid high-fat baked goods and fried fast foods. These are high in cholesterol and trans fat.

Choose soft tub margarine and olive, canola, and sunflower oils. These fats and oils are low in saturated fat and trans fat. The following fats are not good for your heart-butter is high in saturated fat; hard, stick margarine is high in trans fat.
