A Birth Day to Remember

Allyson Scott Knotts didn’t know what to expect before giving birth to her beautiful daughter Callee, born June 8th at The Women’s Place at South Central Regional Medical Center.

“I’d never been in the hospital before, so I was a little nervous. But it was an amazing experience.” says the 34-year-old first-time mom and morning talk show host at B-95 Country Radio in Laurel. She says that the environment was beautiful and that her doctor and the hospital staff were wonderful.

“Everything went so smoothly,” she says. “I was impressed that my husband, Chris, was so welcome at my doctor visits. It was definitely a family-oriented experience.”

Early in her pregnancy, Allyson needed to call her obstetrician, Michael Weber, MD, on a Saturday. “I didn’t want to interrupt him over the weekend, but he called me right back.” She says that he answered her questions using terms that were easy to understand.

Her routine doctor visits were a pleasure, too, she says. “The staff acted happy to see me every time I came in.”

When it came time to induce labor, Allyson’s nervousness hit home. But she says that everyone was professional and calming every step of the way.

Allyson needed a cesarean section, and the anesthesiologist explained how a spinal block would relieve pain during the procedure. “I wanted to understand what was happening,” she says. “The anesthesiologist and staff gave me constant reassurance.”

Soon, Callee was born. “I heard the cry—and there was my baby girl—it just flabbergasted me,” she says. “There is no greater miracle.”

“After the birth, the staff let us keep the baby with us all the time. Chris spent the night in my room. They would do anything to make us comfortable.”

The birth of her child at South Central will always be a time that she and her husband, Chris, remember fondly—a time neither of them will ever forget.
