South Central Neurosurgery Program Receives Positive Reviews
Neurosurgery is considered an
advanced discipline of medicine
that provides operative and nonoperative
management of a variety of
disorders. Michael W. Lowry, MD,
one of the state’s most experienced
neurosurgeons, recently began a neurosurgery
program at South Central
Regional Medical Center in Laurel.
Doug Higginbotham, Executive Director at South Central, says, “We continue to look for ways to improve care to patients in our community. Our board of trustees and our physicians saw a need for this service locally, and we are pleased to offer it to our community.” He continued to say that
Dr. Lowry has already performed several cases at the medical center, and has received positive reviews. Dr. Lowry has been performing neurosurgery for more than 24 years. “I have actually performed many neurosurgical cases since completing my neurosurgery residency program in 1982,” Dr. Lowry says. “I am very impressed with the surgical team at South Central. I also am impressed with the nurses that provide care to my patients following surgery,” he says.
Dr. Lowry has limited his practice in Laurel to neck and spine surgery. “I have made the decision to specialize in areas of the neck and spine,” he says. “I will treat a variety of disorders, including spinal disc herniation, spinal stenosis, spinal cord trauma, and some spinal tumors. I also will provide surgical treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome.”
Neurosurgery is a nice addition to South Central Regional Medical Center’s surgical program. The medical center is currently constructing a 32,200-square-foot, state-of-theart surgical facility that is set to open in January of 2008.
