The Women's Life Center, a community education service provided by South Central Regional Medical Center, was established to provide the women of this area with the necessary tools to become better informed and more aware of their options in health and medical care. Our Programs:
Childbirth Preparation Classes
The Women’s Place offers complimentary childbirth education classes for women planning to deliver at The Women’s Place at South Central. Preparing the expectant couple for one of life's most exciting experiences is the focus of this three part course. Birth information and labor coping strategies are included in this comprehensive guide to a more satisfying birth experience. The course is held at the Rehabilitation & Wellness Complex. Pre-registration is required. There is no fee for those delivering at SCRMC. Please call (601) 399-0506 in your sixth month to doublecheck class dates and times for the classes.
Parents will learn the mechanics and uniqueness of:
- Labor
- Coping strategies
- Relaxation and breathing techniques
- Medications used during labor and birth
- Physical changes after birth
- Newborn care
The class also includes a tour of The Women’s Place at South Central. A certified childbirth educator teaches the classes.
Sibling Preparation Class: A bimonthly class designed to prepare the brother or sister-to-be for the addition of a newborn to the family. A guided tour of the "Women's Place" is included.
The class meets at 6 p.m. in the first floor conference room at South Central Regional Medical Center. Pre-registration is required. There is no fee for families delivering at SCRMC. Please call 399-0506 for class dates and times.
Safe Sitter: This internationally recognized , medically accurate program teaches 11- to 13-year-olds how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children. The course is offered each summer( dates to be announced). Additional benefits to the students include enhanced self-esteem, introductory employment skills and a number of safe habits and life skills. The class may be offered as a one day or two day course. Pre-registration is required. Dates to be announced.
Breast Health Program :This special instructional program follows the American Cancer Society guidelines for early detection of breast cancer. All women, especially if you are over 40, should know about breast cancer and how to find it early. Call (601) 399-0506 to request this one-hour program to be presented to your civic club, social organization, or work site.
