$30K donated to ALIVE Jones County
The Laurel Exchange Club recently donated $30,000 to ALIVE Jones County, a division of South Central Regional Medical Center, in support of the Parent-Youth Resource Library located in the Families First Resource Center. The library provides books, videos, pamphlets, coloring books and brochures addressing current issues such as abstinence, safety, Internet protection, nutrition, discipline and child abuse prevention. These materials are available for parents and youth at no charge. The center also provides age-appropriate coloring books to schools for children in grades K-3 entitled "Good Touch, Bad Touch" as part of their mission to prevent child abuse.
ALIVE Jones County received two grants from the Mississippi Department of Human Services this year. Donations such as that from the Exchange Club will help to purchase materials and equipment not covered by the grants. Donations also go toward the Exchange Club's Child Abuse Prevention Conference in April and various kid safety events held throughout the year.
In addition to the mentioned programs, ALIVE Jones County offers, the Teens Getting involved in the Future, TGIF, program which promotes abstinence to local youth. ALIVE Jones County also focuses their attention on promoting good parenting skills as well as offering several library materials and classes to assist young parents. The center also has a fatherhood program, and beginning in January, will kick off EXCEL an Exchange Club Youth Program and ninth grade service club.
4D Ultrasound Provides Amazing Images
4D Ultrasound Provides Amazing Images Of The Unborn Child
Mothers now have the ability to see their baby in the womb through beautiful 4D Ultrasound images. The pictures available show the unborn child moving, blinking, sucking their thumb and even smiling. Individual finger movements can also be seen. The 4D ultrasound technology is now available at the OB-GYN Group of Laurel.
4D Ultrasound is the latest ultrasound technology. It features advanced signal processing, which produces higher-quality ultrasound images. But what makes the system unique is exclusive 4D technology. It represents the difference between video and a still photograph. Through this revolutionary technology, your baby’s three-dimensional images are continuously updated, providing a "live action" view.
K. C. Sisco, ultrasonographer with OB-GYN Group of Laurel, said, "There is nothing like watching the faces of expectant parents as they see their unborn baby in clear view. The detail of a 4D ultrasound is so much better than a normal 2D scan. There is no comparison.
"We are all excited about the capabilities of the 4D Ultrasound System and the opportunity for parents to see real life images of their babies," stated Michael Weber, M.D. "Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive exam that poses no risks and does not typically require any exam preparation. It utilizes sound waves to look inside the body. The technology is similar to radar. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo and generates an image. There are many factors that impact the length of an ultrasound exam, including the position of the baby in the womb. However, a typical exam for an expectant mother lasts approximately 30-50 minutes," he concluded.
The 4D ultrasound package includes a DVD, several black and white photographs, and several color photographs. "We even give the parents a CD with all of the images filmed during the procedure so they can make their own copies," K.C. said.
The diagnostic procedure is not covered by insurance. For more information, or to make an appointment call 601/649-5421.
